Newspaper comics created by Martin Branner first distributed by Chicago Tribune Syndicate in 1920. Mr. branner, a former Vaudeville star, decided to go into cartooning after his World War I stint in the military. His first strip, "louie the lawyer", started in 1919, but Mr. Branner stayed with it only about a year. His second, "peter & Pinto", disappeared after a mere 20 Sunday pages. but the on the third, "Winnie Winkle", Branner spent the rest of his career. Mr. Branner came to Pago Pago during the construction of the Inter-Continental Hotel and after meeting Mr. Prince decided to put him in the comics.
